New challenges will arise in 2017. Ransomware will branch out into different variants and become harder to prevent as well planned attackers become smarter. Non-desktop devices such as mobile devices and iwatches will become a larger focus for hackers. Adobe, Apple & Business Email softwares have all been looked at as possible targets for attacks in the next year. Here are a few of our predictions for 2017:
A study by the Ponemon institute found that most companies take about 6 months to detect data breaches within their network, according to ZDNet. While financial firms take 98 days on average to detect attacks, retailers generally take 197 days. During the months that cyber criminals go undetected, they are able to move about the network where they can log keystrokes, steal login credentials, learn company secrets, and possibly steal money.
Why do we do what we do?
Everyone at cat-man-du loves technology and helping others, so you could say what we do is definitely a labor of love. Our founder Ray Wilson started this company in his garage helping repair computers for friends and family and it has since grown into what it is today. Think about how much technology has changed in 13 years? If we didn’t love what we did then we would be silly for keeping up all this time.
Risk Intelligence is a concept that is slightly beyond Risk Management and is defined as, “next generation security solution that provides relevant,
actionable and timely intelligence to help organizations understand the various internal and external risks that can lead to a data breach. Based on the identified risks the platform calculates a quantifiable liability amount in dollars that helps the organization prioritize remediation efforts as well as security spend to reduce the likelihood of a breach.”
Tenable.com just released the 2017 Global Cybersecurity Assurance Report Card and it looks like confidence levels among security professionals dropped from 76 percent last year to 70 percent this year. This report measures the attitudes and perceptions of 504 enterprise IT security practitioners across the globe. It helps to assess how confident IT professionals feel encountering cybersecurity risks and diminishing uncertainty. The data tells us that there is an overall decline in opinions regarding global cybersecurity protections across the always changing IT field.
When choosing a new computer for your business, the first decision you want to make is whether you want to buy a desktop computer or a laptop. If your employees are going to be calling on customers and need to do things like online product demos then its a no brainer that you will want to go with laptop computers. Similarly if you are expecting to do work outside of the office or remotely, then the laptop route is the better route to go. If you are stationed in an office the majority of your day and you have no need to take your work outside of the office then a desktop computer is perfect for you.
cat.man.du has teamed up with CareNet Pregnancy Centers in Amarillo this winter to help gather specific items for those mothers in need. When we reached out to CareNet this year they said that they have a very specific need for baby formula, and especially heavy duty winter baby blankets. Here in Amarillo the winter temperatures are just now starting to drop and research has shown when a baby becomes overly chilled it is a serious medical situation, and insufficient thermal insulation has been linked to SIDS. Help us collect as many blankets as we possibly can so that we may make an impact in the lives of many struggling mothers and their precious infants. We have set up a collection box at our office located at 8501 SW 34th and you can drop those blankets or the baby formula off anytime between 8am and 5pm Monday - Friday. We greatly appreciate your wonderful donation this holiday season, and if you would like to be involved further please contact us anytime!

If the upcoming US election was hacked or sabotaged, would we even know it happened? This year, in parts of over 10 states voters will ‘e-vote’ using touch screen voting machines with no paper back up. Tech critics and citizens alike are worried that the electronic voting machines could undermine the election. Here are some of the risks bothering security experts going into this election week.
